What Good is a Small Sized Ballistic Shield?

There are different sizes and designs available from ballistic shield manufacturers to accommodate different on-field requirements. You can choose from a variety of sizes and shapes of ballistic shields to protect against different threats. The smallest ballistic shield can be as small as 16 x 20 inches (41 x 53 cm). These shields are best used when the carrier has access to additional ballistic protection, such as a wall or tree nearby that can provide cover.

The benefit of small ballistic shields is that they are easy to carry and can be placed to protect the most important areas. Most small ballistic shields are easy and fast to deploy and designed to protect torsos, vital organs, faces, and necks while not covering the entire body. Because they are light, they can be deployed rapidly when needed, unlike heavy shields. Having these in your car can help patrol officers establish and maintain perimeters, enter questionable areas, or do a lot of other useful things. The shields used in ballistics can be enormous as well. To offer full body protection, some shields are significantly larger (61 x 122 cm). Even though they can provide a wider range of coverage, they can make it difficult for you to move and react to danger. There is no standard size for shields, but they generally range between 20 x 30 inches (51 x 76 cm) and 24 x 36 inches (61 x 91 cm). They offer protection and mobility at the same time.

Lastly, there are large rolling shield systems with Level IV protection that provide maximum ballistic protection. A unit such as this provides overhead protection for a few officers at the same time. As a result, protection is increased for weight increase, but mobility and speed are decreased.
