A slash proof body armor or stab proof vest is a piece of body armor, worn under or over other items of clothing, designed to resist knife attacks to the chest, back and sides. Slash proof vests are different from other body armor for sale. Bulletproof vests offer protection against firearms and provide little or no protection against stabbing with sharp-tipped objects such as knives.
Stab proof vests also provide less protection against bullets but are designed to prevent serious injury by restricting knife penetration to a very large extent. Slash proof vests are also needle proof. The vest will also stop screwdrivers, needles, knives, ice picks. Stab proof vests are also commonly worn by paramedics, supervisors/bouncers, security staff, traffic wardens, environmental wardens, or anyone who may be under threat.
Before you purchase a body armor for sale, do ensure that it must have been in a professional laboratory and tested by professional equipment for stab-resistant vests. This is usually done by a machine. The machine will drop a knife blade against the vest with a certain amount of pressure. The first pressure applied on the vest will be of 24 joules. At a pressure of 24 joules, the knife should not penetrate more than 7 mm. The maximum pressure to be applied will be 36 joules. At a pressure of 36 joules, the knife should not penetrate more than 20 mm. This testing will be done several times for both pressures.
For most of the body armor for sale in the market, exoskeleton slash/stab vest uses aluminum in place of aramid fiber like other slash vests, so the material doesn’t expire. With proper care, the vest should last five years. A stab vest must be carefully inspected for signs of damage such as tears, burns, and creases before every use.
